Alexey Nesov
Karting
Alexey (Alex) Nesov, is a 21 year old Russian born racing driver who started karting at the age of 5 in rental karts, where he fell in love with racing. Alexey competed in almost every rental kart race in Moscow, where he immediately showed his capabilities against the best adult karting drivers in Moscow as well as former professional drivers such as Vasily Romanov, Yuri Grigorenko and Ivan Matveev. Alexey’s career in rental karts lasted up until the age of 13 in 2016, over that period he won 16 different championships while topping the world rankings of the Sodi World Series in 2013 and 2015. In 2016 he won the National Rental Karting Championship which secured him a sponsorship package which allowed him to compete in the professional national karting championships for 2 rounds, in which he was competitive straight away and won on just his second attempt. This race had impressed SMP Racing, a prestigious Russian racing team with huge successes in the past and present day, who decided to take Alexey on their junior development program. At the end of 2016, Alexey won a national KF Junior Cup. In 2018 Alexey focussed on competing in the European Karting Championship and World Karting Championship. Where he was competitive despite driving for a small team, always managing to make it into the finals.
SMP Formula 4
After an impressive stint on the international karting scene, Alexey moved into cars at 15 years of age. Competing in the SMP Formula 4 championship. On his first ever day driving a Formula car he managed to get the second fastest overall time of the entire test, just 0.2 seconds behind the fastest time of the more experienced Pavel Bulantsev who had already driven a full season in single-seater race cars. Alexey however, was given the oldest car in the field which had many crashes in the past. Despite this however, Alexey managed to finish 3rd in the championship with 1 win and 9 other podiums to his name out of 13 races, whilst being the only rookie in the field too.
International GT Open
As after the 2019 F4 season SMP was getting less and less involved with sponsoring young talents, Alexey had to move to a different championship. He got an unexpected opportunity during the winter of 2019. Alexey got invited to race in the International GT Open championship in 2020 with AKM Motorsport, alongside Aleksandr Moiseev, in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 car. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the pre-season testing sessions were cancelled which caused Alexey to only be in the car as early as the Thursday on the first race weekend itself. Due to the lack of international recognition of Alexey, and the fact that he was a rookie, he was given the AM (Amateur) category for the season. This meant the car was restricted to used tires, a full tank of fuel and safe engine map in qualifying. This meant that he always had to fight his way to the front in the races. By the time Alexey got used to the car at around round 3, he got to fight with well-known and well established pro GT drivers such as Patric Niederhauser, Charlie Eastwood and former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien. The team was fighting for the class championship, until Alexey suffered a puncture at Spa-Francorchamps causing him to lose control and have a heavy shunt. This cut the International GT Open campaign of Alexey and the team short, and it saw them finish 2nd in the championship by the end of the season.
Sim Racing
After impressing in his first ever GT3 championship back in 2020, a lack of budget called a halt to this project, and Alexey fully emerged into sim racing. He improved massively over time and got to compete, not only against the best sim racers, but also against the best real-life racing drivers. Such as, Max Verstappen, Laurin Heinrich, Ayhancan Guven, Daniel Juncadella, Bruno Spengler and many others. Alexey got signed onto the Urano eSports team, a Mercedes-AMG GT3 esports team, before getting signed onto official BMW esports team; Team Redline, which is owned by Max Verstappen, in 2024. Alexey became a pro sim-racer and won multiple top-level esports competitions, currently being ranked as high as 11th in the world rankings on iRacing.
GTWC Europe Endurance Cup
After having to spend 2 years without real-life racing, Alexey got back into a racing car in 2023. Him and his family took a huge financial gamble by spending all of their savings on getting Alexey a gig in GT World Challenge. On a last-minute call, Alexey arrived in Paul-Ricard in France for the pre-season tests to drive the Mercedes-AMG GT3 car of Madpanda Motorsports. The deal was to allow Alexey to test for one day, but despite not having driven a racing car in 2.5 years, the team was most impressed by his pace during the tests, so they instantly invited him to join the team for the upcoming GT World Challenge Endurance Cup in Europe. The most prestigious GT3 competition in the world. Throughout the entire season, Alexey was the fastest driver of the three drivers in the car, and was one of the fastest Silver ranked drivers in the entire championship, despite having to see the other Silver drivers compete in better and more experienced teams. Next to this, Alexey was the team’s sim-racer that season, competing in obligatory sim-races throughout the season against the other professional racing drivers in GTWC that year. Alexey was the only driver to win more than one sim-race that year, and brought 25.000 euros in price money back for his privateer team. Within the paddock, Alexey was often referred to as ‘‘by far the best rookie of the season’’.
Asian Le Mans Series
After the GTWC Endurance season of 2023, Alexey was invited to compete in the Asian Le Mans Series for the 2023-2024 season with Attempto Racing in the Audi R8 GT3. Alexey’s teammates for that season were inexperienced, and Alexey was considered the ‘‘Pro’’ driver of the line-up, and was in many ways the driver coach of his teammates. His teammates were often 3-4 seconds of the pace, but as soon as Alexey got in the car he was able to keep up with the fastest Pro level drivers who were at the front during the race.
GT4 Russia
The main focus for 2024 was on the Russian GT4 Championship (sprint and endurance). After a shoot-out between Michael Belov, Aleksandr Vartanyan and Ivan Lukashevich. Motorshark’s team owner selected Alexey to drive the car in the sprint series, whilst one of the team owner’s AM students, Ilya Gorbatskiy would be driving with Alexey in the endurance series. In the sprint series, which are short format races of an hour, Alexey dominated the season, winning 13 out of 15 races and finished 2nd in the 2 races he did not win, winning the title with one full round to spare. In the endurance cup, whilst competing with a Bronze level driver, Alexey is consistently the fastest driver overall even though he has some serious competitors such as Adam Christodolou, Victor Shaytar, Aleksandr Vartanyan and others. After having started working with Bronze driver Ilya Gorbatskiy in August 2023, Alexey helped develop him into a solid midfield runner throughout the season as his teammate and driver coach.
24h of Spa
As a pro Silver graded driver, Alexey was not able to compete in GTWC full-time in 2024 due to commitments in GT4’s in Russia. However, he did get the chance to race the most prestigious GT3 race in the world. The 24h of Spa. Attempto Racing needed one more Silver ranked driver to complete their Spa 24 line-up. Alexey was invited to compete for that seat against known GT aces Pietro Delli Guanti, Lucas Legeret and Matthieu Detry. Alexey was the quickest of all during the test and was selected to drive the Bronze class car consisting of one Pro ranked driver, 2 Silver ranked drivers and 1 Bronze ranked driver. The race went very well, the car stayed on the lead lap, surrounded by Pro class cars and was even leading overall at some point. However, with 5 hours left to run, one of Alexey’s teammates collided with a lapped car which bend the steering of the car, costing the team a second per lap. This took them out of contention for the overall win, but they managed to bring their wounded car home in 10th place overall which was the highest place a Bronze car has ever finished overall in the history of the 100 year old 24h of Spa. Alexey and his team managed to win the Bronze class in the biggest GT3 race in the world with a bend steering rack. The final 4 hours of the race were shared between Alexey and his Pro teammate, and former Porsche Super Cup Champion, Dylan Pereira. In identical conditions, Alexey and Dylan Pereira were only 0.002 seconds split on average pace.
24h of Dubai
In January 2025, Alexey was looking to kick off the season with the 24h of Dubai as part of the Michelin 24h Series. The weekend started off very strongly, as the team put the car on pole-position for the endurance race. Alexey was starting the race and after a consistent first stint of 1 hour, he handed to car over to DTM-champion Thomas Preining, who was impressed about Alexey’s pace as they matched each other’s pace nicely. Preining told Alexey that he is ready to go into the PRO class, which would be the class with the most skilled drivers in the game. Unfortunately for Alexey and the team, the car had a punctured tyre in the early morning, which gave the team no chance to fight for the win anymore. Despite this, they managed to finish 2nd. In the most bittersweet podium finish Alexey has ever experienced, showing once again how determined he is to win, despite taking home more silverware.
