Jarno D’Hauw
Trackdays
Unlike many drivers, Jarno started his racing career after attending a trackday in 2019, where he drove a Porsche GT3 RS. Just for fun, he thought at least. Jarno always had a passion for cars and racing, but never knew his racing career would start then and there. Jarno drove the car alongside Jeffrey van Hooydonk, a former Formula 1 test driver who was Jarno’s co-driver during the trackday. He was impressed with how quickly Jarno got to grips with the car. Jarno started training for the next two years and got himself a Mazda MX-5 Cup Car to compete in the MX-5 Cup with. During the tests of the MX-5 Cup, Jarno was one of the quickest drivers already. This earned him a full-season of the Belcar Championship, which included the prestigious 24 hours of Zolder. So Jarno sold the Mazda to go and race in the Belcar Championship.
Belcar
During Jarno’s time in the Belcar Championship in 2021, he competed in a Lamborghini Super Trofeo car. A massive step for a beginning driver. But Jarno handled it extremely well and won some races together with his teammate Cédric Wauters. Even though Jarno drove competitive lap-times, they ended the season third in the standings due to the reliability issues. After his impressive Belcar campaign, Jarno was asked by Lamborghini to be a part of their junior driver program. However, in 2022 Jarno decided that Lamborghini could not provide the right path for him career wise. Later he got selected by BMW to drive in the M2 Cup.
BMW M2 Cup
Throughout the 2022 season Jarno competed in the BMW M2 Cup. Some of the best European racing talent was present in this championship. As one of the rookies in the field, Jarno had impressive pace despite this being his first sprint championship as he was used to racing endurance by now. The qualifying format was much different then what Jarno was used to , which took a bit of getting used to as well as standing starts. This often caused Jarno to start right in the mix and having to move his way up in the race, which he did! Jarno was a fan favorite due to his incredible overtaking moves on almost every part of the race track. The best teams in the world looked at this in awe, and were all impressed with Jarno’s race-pace and race-craft. The biggest achievement of the year was his 24 Hours of Zolder victory in the M2 class. Jarno’s first 24 hour race-win, held on a very demanding track in Belgium. He qualified on pole position and destroyed his opponents in the race, driving away by over 8 minutes in the first 3 hours of the race. Showing everyone how rapid he is once again.
Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie
In 2023 Jarno chose to drive for the BMW Factory Team of Walkenhorst in the NLS. Driving the BMW M4 GT4. This included the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. The most demanding and packed 24 hour race in the world. Where the tight corners and endless traffic can let you make a crucial mistake so easily. Before entering the NLS, Jarno needed to have his Nordschleife permit. He did so by driving a Hyundai racing car for 4 races around the Nordschleife. In his first race, at just the first time driving on the Nordschleife, Jarno was already the fastest out on the track in his class. He had the fastest lap and podiums in all 4 races, but due to his slower teammates there was no chance of winning any of them. Despite this however, Jarno was now a Nordschleife permit holder.
Nürburgring 24 Hours
During the qualifying race for the infamous Nürburgring 24 Hours, Jarno and his team had to start from the back due to penalties obtained in qualifying. Jarno drove towards the front in his stint and managed to get up to P2 during the night, and P3 in the second race. For the big race, the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Jarno was on an amazing lap, however due to the unfortunate locations of traffic on track, he didn’t put it on pole even though with that pace, mathematically it would have been pole if there were no traffic. During the big race, one of Jarno’s teammates spun causing the team to go into the night in last place in class. When Janro took over the wheel, he put in a 4 hour stint, moving from P17 to P4 in the night. After his long stint, they lost some places again due to the slower pace of his teammates, but Jarno climbed back to P6 after he took over again. Once again, everyone noticed Jarno’s pace. It was impressive given the circumstances.
What Is Next?
Jarno is looking to make the step up into GT3, a class full of the best racing talent in the world. He got close to an opportunity in 2024, but an investor decided they wanted a driver linked to their family to drive the car, and it left Jarno out.
